Oscars 2019 performances: Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper and Queen to sing at awards ceremony

Although this year’s Academy Awards has faced its fair share of drama, plans have finally started to settle for the ceremony.

All five of the Best Original Song nominees will now perform at the telecast on 24 February. The Academy initially announced that only two songs would be performed on the night – Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” from A Star is Born, along with Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars” from Black Panther – but rescinded the decision following widespread backlash.

According to reports, performances may now be limited to 90 seconds instead.

Cooper, meanwhile, has already revealed that he won’t be performing “Shallow” as his character Jackson Maine, but will join Gaga on stage for the performance. Lamar and SZA have not, however, been officially confirmed as performers, and it’s unclear whether another artist may step in to cover “All the Stars”.

Also performing will be Jennifer Hudson, who will sing “I’ll Fight”. Penned by nine-time Oscar nominee Diane Warren, the song feartured in the Ruth Bader Ginsburg documentary RBG. Bette Midler will perform “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns, which is sung in the film by Emily Blunt.

“When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings”, from the Coen Brothers western anthology The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, will be performed by songwriters Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. In the film, the song is sung by star Tim Blake Nelson.

On top of the nominated songs, The Academy has revealed that Queen will be joined by Adam Lambert, who has been touring with the band for several years, for a special performance in honour of Bohemian Rhapsody.
