When are the Oscars 2019 on TV? How to watch the 91st Academy Awards in the UK

The 91st Academy Awards are back for another year of glitz and glamour, with Hollywood legends gearing up to walk the red carpet ahead of competing for the most coveted gongs in film.

This year’s show has already made headlines after it was announced that it would be going ahead without a host for the first time in three decades, after Kevin Hart stepped down due to controversy over resurfaced homophobic tweets.

However, in a bid to combat the absence of a host, show producers have opted for an A-list line-up of presenters including, Daniel Craig, Jennifer Lopez and Tina Fey.

Here is everything you need to know about where you can catch all the action from this year’s Oscars:

When are the Oscars taking place?

The 2019 Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 24.

How can I watch the Oscars in the UK?

The entire ceremony will be aired on the Sky Cinema Oscars channel, so if you didn't get a invite this year then fear not.

Fans can purchase a Now TV pass which gives viewers access to Sky TV for a short-term period. The pass costs £9.99 per month, but new Now TV customers can opt for a free 14-day trial in time for the event.

Due to the time difference, the main ceremony is expected to start around 1am so if you don’t fancy staying up into the early hours you can catch the highlights on Monday, February 25 on Sky Cinema Oscars at 8pm.

If you want to catch Hollywood’s finest walk the red carpet then the official Oscars Twitter account (@TheAcademy) will be streaming live from 11:30pm.

Who are the nominees?

Netflix's Roma and historical comedy The Favourite lead this year's nominations with 10 each, including Best Picture, Original Screenplay and a Leading Actress nod for Yalitza Aparicio and Olivia Colman respectively.

Also in the running for Best Picture is Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansaman, Green Book, Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut A Star is Born, Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and Black Panther, which made history as the first superhero movie to land a nomination in the category.

Best Actress will see Aparicio and Colman battle it out against Golden Globe winner Glenn Close, A Star is Born actress Lady Gaga and Can You Ever Forgive Me? star Melissa McCarthy.

Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Rami Malek, Viggo Mortensen and this year's wild card choice, Willem Dafoe, will go head-to-head for the Best Actor gong.
