The run-up to the Oscars 2020 race has been nothing short of dramatic. From the excitement over Parasite's inclusion in Best Picture to the uproar over the entirely male best director list, not to mention the fact that only one actor of colour was nominated in all the main acting categories, this year's awards are likely to inspire all manner of reactions on social media.

There is still plenty of time for people to speculate over the big wins, losses, snubs, and speeches.

Here's everything you need to know about the 92nd Academy Awards.

Oscars 2020 date: When is it on?

The Oscars 2020 takes place in Los Angeles, California, USA on Sunday, February 9. Inconveniently for everyone living elsewhere, this means they're on Pacific Standard time – at 5pm.

In the UK, it's 1am on Monday, February 10. Yikes.

Oscars 2020 host: Who has been chosen?

Once again, the Oscars will go on without a host. The upside of this means the ceremony tends to go quicker. The downside? No terrible jokes to tear into the next day.

Well, this is a hugely contentious list for a lot of reasons. First, the only person of colour nominated in any acting category is Cynthia Erivo, for best actress for her role in Harriet, playing the eponymous abolitionist and formerly enslaved woman.

Putting aside the merits of Erivo's performance, the Academy has a bad track record of nominating black actors only for roles when they play slaves, maids, or drug addicts. "Hattie McDaniel became the first black actor to win an Oscar for playing Mammy in Gone With the Wind, while other examples include Denzel Washington for Glory, Halle Berry for Monster’s Ball, Octavia Spencer for The Help, Mo’Nique for Precious, and Lupita Nyong’o for 12 Years a Slave, among others." Erivo's nomination rubs the wrong way especially when you consider Nyong'o was snubbed for her performance in Us.

Additionally, the Best Directors list is – once again – men only. Little Women was nominated for a host of awards including Best Picture and Best Screenplay, yet somehow director Greta Gerwig was left of the Best Director nominees list. Also left out were Marielle Heller, who was also snubbed last year, (A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood this year and Can You Ever Forgive Me last year) Alma Har'el (Honeyboy), and Lulu Wang (The Farewell).

Other egregious snubs include Jennifer Lopez (Hustlers), the entire cast of Parasite, and The Farewell. Everything to do with The Farewell – even after Awkwafina made history winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress. Yep.

Here's the full list of nominees.

Oscars 2020 air time: What time will it be on in the UK?

Those hoping to watch it live in the UK will have to drink a hell of a lot of coffee. The celebrities and stars begin their red-carpet arrival at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre, around 12am UK time. The ceremony begins at 1am and lasts until approximately 4am.

Those on the East coast of the USA won't have to stay up quite as late: the broadcast will start around 8pm.

Oscars 2020: Where can I watch it?

As per every year, 2020 Oscars will likely air on Sky for those of us in the UK (but it has yet to be confirmed). In the USA, you can watch it on ABC (check your local guide for what channel this is, it varies).

If you don’t have Sky, you can get your hands on a Sky Cinema Pass from NowTV.
