Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have said they are open to the show being revived – but it's unlikely that they'll have anything to do with it.

After seven seasons, a soft reboot and some major cast shake-ups, Once Upon a Time ended with a truly satisfying finale, 'Leaving Storybrooke', which aired on Friday night (May 18) in the US.

And with that final episode, it looks like Kitsis and Horowitz are happy to close their chapter on the show.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about whether they'd be up for reviving the show at any point, Kitsis revealed that he's more interested in seeing what someone else can come up with now.

"I would say we are up for someone else doing it and we look forward to seeing what that would be," he said.

"We feel like we told our story that has been very near and dear to our hearts for a very long time," Horowitz added.

"This was an idea we had more than 15 years ago and we feel very happy with what we did and how we did it and, should the show continue on in some form down the line, I think we'd be as big fans."

On the subject of the finale itself, Kitsis added that "the goal was to send the fans home happy".

"It was one last adventure, so we wanted to do something that would please Oncers everywhere," he commented.

And they certainly managed that, with the finale bringing back several big names and fan-favourite characters as everyone, including Regina (Lana Parrilla), Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle), Henry (Andrew J. West), Zelena (Rebecca Mader), Robin (Tiera Skovbye), Cinderella (Dania Ramirez), Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) teamed up to defeat evil one last time.

Colin O'Donoghue, who plays Hook on the show, also recently opened up about the heartbreaking finale, stating that he thought the way his character and Rumplestiltskin's story ended was an "amazing" story.

"I thought it was a really beautiful moment and very, very important to me, as an actor, for them [to get this moment] and for that to be the happy ending for Hook," he added.

Once Upon a Time aired on ABC in the US. Netflix airs the series in the UK.
