He may be something of a big man on the Essex scene, but even macho man Mark Wright isn't immune from injury.

The former The Only Way Is Essex star is sporting a nasty facial injury after he apparently dropped some weights on his face at the gym.

Taking to Instagram, the 31-year-old's story showed him in his gym gear, telling his fans what happened.

"When you have nobody to spot you on the bench and you lift one too many reps! Ouch!" he wrote, with followers sending him messages of support and wishes to get better soon.

The incident apparently happened on Monday (February 19), with Mark now proudly wearing a bright red gash on his face.

However, injury couldn't stop him from partying in West Hollywood that very same evening.

Head to toe in denim, Mark was able to smile and wave at the paparazzi with his gnarly war wounds.

(His mark also managed to find its way from the left of his face to the right, presumably because the top pictures were flipped.)

Wright is currently on a roll with his US TV deal, interviewing celebs like Kim Kardashian and Niall Horan.

And it was in fact Mark's pal Niall that helped him get the gig, by giving Mark and his team an inside look at his latest music video.

Mark now lives in LA, while wife Michelle Keegan films for her TV projects all around the country. Despite Mark's fame, he believes his part in reality shows like TOWIE and I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! made it difficult for him to get his break.

"Reality shows carry a stigma. You get 'I can't take him seriously, he has no talent. He is thick. He is from Essex'," he said previously.

"I believe proving people wrong is the number one thing. Being a reality star is a huge positive as you are famous instantly if the show is good. But if you want to break away from that, then comes the negative."
