Oumuamua 'alien asteroid’ live: Latest on bizarre 'cigar-shaped' object as it hurtles past Earth at 60,000mph

A vast 'cigar-shaped' space entity dubbed A/2017 U1by astronomers is hurtling comparatively close to Earth at speeds of up to 60,000mph.

The object, thought to be an interstellar asteroid from another part of the galaxy is being monitored by scientists who will try to ascertain the nature of it.

But evidence has been mounting which has led some experts to suggest it could actually be a sign of intelligent life.

The mysterious body, which has been dubbed “Oumuamua”, was spotted by astronomers from the University of Hawaii in October.

It was travelling at nearly 60,000 mph, suggesting that it is not gravitationally bound to the sun.

It is the first object discovered in the solar system that appears to have originated from another part of the galaxy.

Researchers involved in the SETI – Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence – project are now preparing to point a powerful telescope at the bizarre object on Wednesday to find where it came from.
