With summer on the way, and the warmer weather (hopefully) returning, there are plenty of ways to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.

While the beach and the seaside might be our first stop, one destination about 45 min drive from Glasgow offers something a little different.

Offering outdoor swimming without the need for cold water, the Gourock Outdoor Pool has just reopened for the 2024 summer season.

Lidos might not be as popular in Scotland as they are down south, due to our very transient weather but the one in Gourock is still very much thriving and offering a unique experience.

With a season that runs from the start of May until September 1, you can find the full timetable of swimming options on the website.

The heated saltwater pool offers spectacular views of the Clyde Estuary and has kiddie pool times for smaller children to enjoy it too.

The lido offers modern changing facilities, a pool terrace with epic views, and improved disabled access with street parking close by.

The lido was first opened way back in 1909 and the water heating system was installed in 1969. Refurbed in 2010, it uses salt water taken from the River Clyde, cleaned and maintained at a temperature of 29C.

Swim fans bored of the sun can also enjoy swimming under the stars with the pool's starlight swims on Wednesday nights. Running 10pm until Midnight you can book tickets on the website.
