‘Outer Banks’ star Madison Bailey reveals her beauty must-have and talks season 2

If you were one of the millions of people that binged watched Netflix’s hit show “Outer Banks” this summer, then you already know Madison Bailey.

The 21-year-old actress plays Kiara on the wildly popular series that follows her and her friends John B., JJ and Pope as they hunt for buried treasure along the graveyard of the Atlantic.

As a huge fan of the show, I was lucky enough to catch up with Madison over the phone to talk about beauty, working on a TV set during a pandemic and what she’s up to when she’s not filming. Keep scrolling to read our full conversation.

ITK: So I know that you’re currently on set filming season 2 of “Outer Banks.” I just have to tell you that I made my entire family binge season one in about three days, so we’re fully invested in season two. How is filming going?

Madison Bailey: Filming’s going so well! So far, so good. Especially amidst the pandemic, things are running shockingly smooth. Everybody’s been really safe; we’re taking so many precautions so that it can feel as much like season one as possible and I think it does. There’s a lot of adventure happening this year and, I mean, it wouldn’t be “Outer Banks” without the outdoors. It’s been really great.

How do you feel about stepping back into Kiara’s shoes for round two?

I am so excited. I put on all my [character’s] jewelry and once I have wardrobe on, I feel so in character. I literally was just rewatching season one last night and it made me cry — I was like “we’ve come so far!” We’ve all evolved as people and I’m so excited to put this season out.

That’s awesome! And obviously, the last few months have definitely been a change with everyone wearing masks all the time. Tell me a little bit about your current beauty routine.

So my current beauty routine is super simple. If there’s any makeup that is under my mask, it’s not there. I’m not putting it on. I’m putting on concealer, mascara and brows. It’s all about my eyebrows right now for me.

I feel like since my eyebrows are pretty much the only thing showing outside of my mask, I might as well make them the main event. You have stunning brows — what do you use on them?

Thank you so much! That’s actually why I teamed up with Hydro Silk, because brows are so important right now. I use the Hydro Silk Touch–Up on my eyebrows. It’s super easy to use. And it keeps my natural shape as much as possible, which is important because I have over plucked, over waxed — all of the eyebrow horror stories that could happen — I’ve been through that. Totally. And I’m sure filming has you on set for long hours with you having to hang out and kill time, so what are some of your on-set essentials?

I legitimately need my Hydro Silk Touch Up so that I can keep my brows looking nice. Especially having a character that doesn’t wear a ton of makeup, having my natural look looking sharp and right is important. And then a mask and hand sanitizer!

That definitely sounds like all the basics! And when you’re not on set, what have you been up to? How have you been keeping busy during quarantine?

I’ve been working so much that really my weekends are playing catching up or hanging out with the cast or my girlfriend will come to visit. My weekends are very, very low key — Postmates and sweatpants!

Do you have any self-care rituals that you’ve been keeping up with?

I’ve been into skincare, and I’ve mastered at-home pedicures. I’m figuring it out!
