Outlander star announced for next TV project
Outlander star Richard Rankin has landed his next TV role in Rebus, an upcoming adaptation of Sir Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus novels.
Rankin – who has no relation to Sir Ian – will star in Vivaplay's reboot as the titular Inspector, a character previously played by fellow Scottish actors John Hannah and Ken Stott in ITV's own adaptation of the books.
The six-part series will find Inspector John Rebus at a "psychological crossroads" following a run-in with a notorious Edinburgh gangster, according to Deadline.

In the midst of his stressful job, toxic affair, and being all but replaced in his daughter's life by his ex-wife's wealthy husband, Rebus starts to doubt his role as both a family man and a police officer.
Further castings are yet to be announced, but filming is set to begin in Scotland next month.
"I'm thrilled to be taking on the role of Rebus. I'm a big fan of the series and Sir Ian Rankin," Richard said in a statement. "I feel very lucky to be given the honour of bringing such an iconic Scottish character back to TV screens and will give all I have to do it justice."

Sir Ian added: "Rebus has been a big part of my life for a long time now and to work with Gregory Burke to create a new story that sees him navigate life as a younger man in a contemporary (and ever-changing) Scotland has been a truly fascinating process.
"I'm very much looking forward to watching Richard bring the character to life – he's the perfect fit for the role, and not just because we coincidentally share the same surname!"
Rebus will air on Vivaplay in 2024.
