Outlander's Fanny Pocock life and family explained from mother Faith to sister Jane
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from the Outlander TV series and books
Outlander season seven finished on a bombshell note after it was hinted Faith Fraser had somehow survived, despite her mother Claire Fraser (played by Caitríona Balfe) previously believing her infant daughter was stillborn.
There were several clues alluding to Faith being alive, namely Fanny Pocock (Florrie May Wilkinson) singing the 20th century song I Do Like To Be Beside the Seaside - the same ditty Claire sang to her deceased baby back in season two.

There was also a gold locket Claire found with ‘Faith’ engraved on it and contained a portrait of the owner.
This revelation further made Claire question if this was her and Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) daughter given the shared name.
Many fans have been looking to Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novels - which serve as the basis for the Starz series - for answers about Faith, Jane Pocock (Silvia Presente) and Frances or ‘Fanny’ Pocock (Florrie May Wilkinson).
The two sisters were the daughter of a mysterious character called Faith, who died before when the two girls were young.
Fanny was the younger sister of Philadelphia prostitute Jane, who had turned to the trade after her parents had died and she needed to feed her family.
Given her older sibling’s line of work, Fanny grew up in a brothel and feared she too would one day have to sell her body.
In the novel Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, the dastardly Captain Harkness (Adam Jackson-Smith) paid the brothel’s madam to take Fanny’s virginity and was in turn murdered by Jane to protect her younger sister.
Later, Jane encountered William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart), whom she asked to protect her and Fanny.
Eventually, Jane and Fanny were taken to a Quaker Settlement by Rachel Hunter (Izzy Meikle-Small), but one of Captain Harkness’ friends recognised the former prostitute.
Jane was arrested for murder with William and Jamie trying to save her after she was taken away. Sadly, she took her own life before facing punishment for murdering the soldier.
Fanny seemed to endure a kinder fate than her sister after she was taken to live on Fraser’s Ridge, where she became interested in medicine and was mentored by Claire.
She was a similar age to Germain Fraser (Robin Scott) and Jem (Blake Johnston-Miller).
Outlander’s author Gabaldon has previously ruled out Jane and Fanny’s mother Faith being the same person as Jamie and Claire’s daughter.
Therefore, in the novels it seems the two characters share the same namesake and nothing more, but it looks like the TV series could be taking a very different direction.
This wouldn’t be the first time the TV adaptation has diverged from the source material after Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix) was kept alive in the show after perishing at the Battle of Culloden in the books.
