More than 20,000 parking tickets are issued annually by Hull City Council.

A Hull Live FOI request has revealed that 20,570 parking tickets were issued in the 2023/24 financial year in Hull. This is slightly lower than the previous two years.

The council's website currently does not have published parking enforcement data for the last three financial years. Its most recent dates to 2020/21.

In a statement, Hull City Council said: "We intend to publish all the information to date within the next three months."

Between 2021/22 and 2023/24, there were 62,789 parking penalties issued. In each of the three years, more than ten per cent, or consistently over 3,000 tickets, were successfully appealed. Across the three years, the council raised £1.6m in income through parking ticket charges.

National legislation means any surplus income from parking charges after the cost of enforcement, can only go into local transport measures.

There were 3,749 outstanding penalties as of July 11 for the last financial year in Hull. The number of outstanding tickets decreases the longer ago they were issued. However, there were still more than 2,500 outstanding tickets from 2021/22 this summer.

In the current financial year, 4,542 parking penalties had been issued by July 11.
