Over 50 members attend latest meeting of Motherwell and Wishaw Community Action Network

The latest meeting of the Motherwell and Wishaw Community Action Network had over 50 members present.

The Group allows members to share their expertise, raise awareness of different issues facing their community, and work collaboratively to support people in Motherwell and Wishaw and across Lanarkshire.

The latest meeting had over 50 attendees with presentations from New College Lanarkshire; Carers Together; Street Soccer; Voice of Experience; Street Connect; SP Energy Networks; National Lottery; and Moira Anderson Foundation.

The Community Action Network (CAN) is an initiative which brings together charities, civil society groups, churches, community organisations, and campaigners with a shared commitment to tackling poverty and supporting people across North Lanarkshire.

Clare Adamson, SNP MSP and Chair of Community Action Network, said: “The latest meeting was a roaring success and we set up great collaborations between fantastic community organisations as well as presentations from national bodies.

“There is a huge demand to take part in CAN and that reflects the tremendous commitment of our members to supporting people in our community.

"We are building new links and getting new participants; there is real momentum with the group and we aim to make a difference.

“CAN’s members comprises committed and compassionate campaigners, local volunteers, stalwarts of the community, and experts across a range of policy areas: from mental health to climate change; food insecurity to fuel poverty; problematic substance use to disability support.

“Key topics discussed included funding options, challenges related to drug and alcohol use, local courses available in the area, support for unpaid carers, and much more.

“We will consider what action to take following our latest meeting so that we can help people get the right support and ensure that our member organisations, and their services, are widely promoted.”
