LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) – On Thursday, the City of Longview brought together various organizations to provide resources for homeless people in need.
The annual event at the Longview Exhibit Center serves to help people experiencing homelessness receive services that may normally take months for them to obtain, as well as to help them get involved with programs for education, health and more.
“It’s a struggle for folks that don’t have adequate transportation to get to different agencies, to get their lives kind of reset when they’re needing that. This is a day when we can kind of wrap around those individuals, hopefully get them the phone numbers, the connections, the things they need to get the resources that they’re trying to connect to,” said Amy Hooten, EMS Chief for the Longview Fire Department.
The sixth year of the event featured over 64 agencies and organizations coming together to help their neighbors who find themselves in a time of need. The city said more than 400 people were helped this year.
