Overdose Killed 'Queen of Versailles' Daughter

An accidental overdose killed the teenage daughter of a billionaire Florida couple whose dream of building America's biggest mansion featured in a documentary.

Victoria Siegel's death was the result of "acute" methadone and sertraline toxicity, according to the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office.

The 18-year-old was found by a housekeeper at the family's mansion on Green Cove Island in Windermere, Florida, on 6 June. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Methadone is used to treat drug addiction, while sertraline, also sold as Zoloft, is prescribed for depression.

Ms Siegel was the daughter of David and Jackie Siegel, stars of 2012 reality show The Queen of Versailles.

The programme chronicled their extravagant lifestyle, including a plan to build a 90,000 sq ft (8,360 sq metre) mansion modelled on the Palace of Versailles near Paris.

Family lawyer Michael Marder said last month that Ms Siegel had previously undergone voluntary rehabilitation to shake her dependence on prescribed medication that she took to control seizures.

He also said text messages she had received hours before her death may have affected her mental state.

Mr Marder told the Orlando Sentinel: "The ex-girlfriend of Victoria's boyfriend used his phone to send cruel and hateful text messages.

"These messages were clearly intended to hurt Victoria and, while we cannot be sure, may have affected her emotional state at a time when she was emotionally vulnerable."

The tragic teenager's father is the founder of Westgate Resorts, an Orlando-based timeshare empire.

Her mother is a former Mrs Florida America and has been a director of the pageant.
