Beith residents are braced for a week of disruption as road works are set to take place on the A737.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking “essential resurfacing” on the town’s bypass overnight from Monday, November 11 to Sunday, November 17.

As a result, the road will be closed between the junctions with the B777 Wardrop Street/Head Street and the B706 Barmill Road/Geilsland Road from 8pm to 6am each night.

A737 trunk road traffic will be diverted onto the B7049 through Beith town centre while local diversions will also be in place.

A spokesperson for Amey said: “Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the A737 at Beith from Monday, November 11 until Saturday, November 16. This work will take place overnight between the hours of 8pm and 6am, each night.

“The scheme requires total overnight closures of the A737 carriageway in Beith between Wardrop Street and Geilsland Road and a signed diversion route will be in operation. All traffic management will be removed by 6am on Sunday, November 17.

“Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

“The safety of our workforce, the site and the travelling public is of utmost importance when planning road maintenance. A convoy system cannot be implemented during this scheme due to available road widths, which fall below the legal requirements to ensure the safety of road users and road workers.

“The absolute minimum width required for convoy working is 7.3m as per Chapter 8 Traffic Management Regulations. A closure of the A737 trunk road is also required due to the depth of treatment being carried out.

“Amey do not tolerate any threats, abuse, or reckless behaviour that poses a risk to the workforce or the travelling public. Any evidence of such incidents recorded via roadside camera, body camera, or other device may be provided to the relevant authorities in such cases.

“Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

“This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

“Road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.”
