A popular Ayrshire takeaway has announced they will be closing next month.

Irvine’s Taste of New Mexico will serve customers for the last time on December 23 before owners Robin and Rosie move on to pastures new.

Serving a mix of Native American, Mexican and Spanish flavours, the mother and daughter duo brought authentic New Mexican cuisine to the Ayrshire coast over the last five years.

The pair announced on social media that they would be closing with a heavy heart and thanked their customers.

Robin, who hails from Albuquerque, New Mexico, had the idea to sell tacos from a food van with her daughter Rosie, who was born and bred in Ayrshire.

Posting on Facebook, Robin said: “It is with a bittersweet heart we announce that as of December 24, Taste of New Mexico will be closing its doors.

“Life is changing for us. Rosie and I have decided to pursue new adventures.

“The past five years have been some of the happiest moments of our lives. From working down Irvine Harbour in our van to where we are now.

“We are so thankful for all of the support we’ve received over the years. Each and every one of you mean so much to us.

“We cannot put into words how much fun we have had on this adventure. Please know this choice has not come easy.

“We are not going because it didn't work, because it did. It worked amazingly. Serving you all from our home brought us freedom and joy.

“But we have decided that it’s time to move on. From the bottom of our heavy hearts, we will miss you all dearly.

“So from now till December 23, eat tacos to your heart’s content and join us in the last stretch of our journey.”
