OXFORD United have announced this year’s intake of scholars.

Eight teenagers have been offered two-year deals during which they will train, play and continue their education off the pitch.

The group beginning their scholarships includes goalkeeper Monty Marriott, centre back Max Smith and full backs Rashane Maxwell and Richard Gerrard.

They are joined by central midfielders Zaide Took-Oxley and Tobias Brenan, winger Aidan Elliott-Wheeler and striker Josh Iheanacho.

Academy manager Dan Harris told the club’s official website: “It’s massively exciting for them and they have a wonderful opportunity over the next few years to develop not just as footballers but as young men.

“Some have been with the club since they were eight or nine, others have joined more recently, but they all understand the values we hold and we look forward to working with them over the next couple of years.”

United have also announced that Will Owens has followed goalkeeper Eddie Brearey in being offered a third-year scholarship.

The club waited to decide on the future of the 17-year-old forward as he was working his way back from suspension.

The U's also delayed a decision on midfielder Josh Anifowose but his status has not been confirmed.

The latest batch of youngsters will hope to follow in the footsteps of second-year scholars like Josh Johnson and Gatlin O’Donkor, who represented the first-team this season.
