Paddy McGuinness made an unexpected visit to the Good Morning Britain studios today (March 10).

The Take Me Out host gatecrashed the set live on air, leaving presenters Kate Garraway, Ben Shephard and Richard Arnold in shock.

"What are you doing here?" Kate laughed as she watched the comedian randomly push a trolley packed with cakes across the room.

But Paddy didn't seem to bothered by the confusion as he proudly marched on camera and made a dig at Piers Morgan.

"Second time in twenty years I've been on breakfast TV," he said. "It's better without Piers isn't it. More relaxed."

He then asked if the show was live on TV before joking: "That's the good thing about breakfast TV, no-one is watching. This will be our little secret."

Fortunately, Paddy hasn't lost his marbles just yet – he was just helping to raise awareness for Red Nose Day on Friday, March 24.

"It's brilliant when nobody tells you what's going on, on your own show," Kate quipped as Paddy dug out a list of fundraising ideas to inspire viewers to get involved.

He seemed pretty keen to promote the 'Bake a Difference' initiative and insisted he would be more than happy to do his bit by eating as many cakes as possible for the big day.

Clearly not worried about interrupting the show's schedule, Paddy then decided to make himself at home take a selfie – but he wasn't too keen on the snap afterwards.

"I am appearing on daytime TV. I've just caught a glimpse of myself on the TV and this is not a good look in the morning," he joked.

Eventually, after causing as much chaos as possible, Paddy left the studios to let the presenters get on with the show, but not before giving them each a slice of cake. What a gent.

Good Morning Britain is on ITV weekdays at 6am
