Paedophile police officer who filmed himself raping 13-year-old girl in car jailed for 25 years

A paedophile police officer who raped a 13-year-old girl in the back of his car and filmed the attack on his phone has been jailed for 25 years.

Former soldier Ian Naude, 30, also posed as a teenage boy to groom five other young victims aged between 12 and 16 before blackmailing them into silence.

In sentencing, the judge said Naude, a constable for Cheshire Police, had an “insatiable appetite” for underage girls and was obsessed with taking their virginity.

The father-of-one, described as a “committed paedophile” who joined the force to gain access to vulnerable victims, was sentenced for 37 offences at Liverpool Crown Court.

Naude first encountered the rape victim when he was called to a domestic incident at her home while a student police officer in October that year.

Days later he picked her up in his car and raped her in the back seat.

Judge Clement Goldstone, honorary recorder of Liverpool, said: “In order to impose your will on a young girl, three weeks past her 13th birthday, and to commit offences of rape and sexual assault against her, you used and abused your position as a Cheshire Police officer, thereby enabling you to satisfy your lust and perversion.”

The judge said Naude, of Market Drayton, Shropshire, was “out of control” with an “insatiable appetite” for young girls and described a selfie he took after raping his victim as showing his “smug self-satisfaction and total lack of shame”.

Mr Goldstone added: “Having seen and heard you during the trial, I am wholly persuaded that you do not, even now, have any inkling or appreciation of the extent of your perversion or of the psychological harm and damage you have caused.”

Naude, who was based at Crewe police station, admitted having sex with the teenager but claimed it was consensual.

But Martin McRobb, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said the ”disturbing video of the incident on his phone did not show the face of a consenting woman”.

“It showed the face of a sad, scared and abused 13-year-old girl,” he added. “She had been groomed by a police officer who had a history of manipulating, pressurising and blackmailing young girls into performing sexual acts for his perverted pleasure.”

The teenager was left too afraid to leave the house without close family and friends, her mother said.

In a statement to court, she added: “She will no longer walk past the local police station and hides when a police car drives past.”

Parents of Naude’s other victims said their daughters had gone on to self-harm after being groomed online.

The officer blackmailed and threatened the girls to persuade them to send pictures of themselves naked. He told them to call him “daddy” and sent them videos of himself masturbating.

Naude, who was suspended and dismissed by Cheshire Police following his arrest, was convicted of rape and sexual assault, as well as four charges of attempting to arrange the commission of a child sex offence and one charge of arranging a child sex offence.

He pleaded guilty to 30 other offences, including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, making indecent photos of children and misconduct in a public office.

He admitted possessing 1,443 indecent images of children, including pictures of girls as young as 18 months.

The court heard South African-born Naude would gain the trust of young girls by posing on social media as a 15-year-old boy called Jake Green.

Naude, who served in Afghanistan as a machine gunner with the Royal Irish Regiment, had been due to join Cheshire Police in January 2017 but the recruitment process was halted following an allegation he raped a woman in neighbouring Staffordshire.

When no further action was taken in the case, a decision was made by the vetting department to allow the process to continue and Naude was appointed to the force in April that year.

But when police began to investigate Naude following his arrest, they found he had also been a named suspect in two child grooming allegations – reported to Staffordshire Police and West Mercia Police in January and February 2017.

Saul Brody, defending, said there was “very little mitigation” he could offer for Naude and conceded he was a dangerous offender.

He added: “It’s unclear whether he entered the police force specifically to exploit vulnerable victims but he undoubtedly sought opportunities to do so once appointed.”
