'I paid £20 for Mystery Box and struck gold when I opened it up'
The middle aisle of Lidl has become quite the national treasure. It seems to have everything we could ever want from life – from musical instruments to cooking appliances and holiday gear.
So when the supermarket gave Brits to snap up an assortment of items from the beloved aisle, many jumped at the chance. What's even better, they didn't even have to move from their sofas in order to get hold of the goodies. That's because Lidl released Mystery Boxes packed to the brim – for just £20 a pop.
As the name of the scheme would suggest, these goodies were a total "mystery". Customers had no clue about which items they'd receive until they opened up the boxes that arrived – and they can differ from person to person.
We did get some idea of the contents, though. A man called Andrew Marshall gave people a sneak peek inside his bundle. On Facebook, he revealed: "Here's my Lidl Mystery box haul, not bad at all for £20. It was delivered by DPD this afternoon."
Andrew's random purchase included an electric keyboard, headphones, digital radio, pizza baking set, knitted fleece jacket, some swimming goggles and a wetsuit. And it's safe to say people were very jealous!
Many asked the shopper how he got his hands on so many bargains – and he replied that sadly the Mystery Boxes are only limited edition. They could return in the future, though.
Andrew added: "For anyone wondering, I seen a post on here last week advising that Lidl were going to be doing the mystery boxes. So I waited until they were released, which I think was 10am. They limited it to 1,000 boxes.
"It was a bit of a faff as my payment kept declining, however I just kept trying the payment and eventually it went through. Didn't expect to get one, but seem to have been one of the lucky ones. Obviously all sold out now, fingers crossed they do them again."
