Paisley radio station that promotes town picks up five awards
A Paisley radio station scooped a number of prestigious awards at the recent Prestige Scotland Awards. Paisleyradio.com walked away from the evening with five trophies after winning a number of categories.
The local business, which broadcasts all day and night from the centre of Paisley, started in March 2020 – a week before the UK went into lockdown.
Paul Wycherley, owner and chairman of Paisleyradio.com, thanked his loyal audience for making the show possible which now has over six million listeners on average from 180 countries.

He said: “Our mission from day one was to promote and champion our wee town of Paisley, to help bring the good times back to our town and to make radio fun again.
“We especially enjoy helping the next generation get their foot in the door with vital live on air production experience. As our motto says, ‘think different’.
“We love our town and paisleyradio.com has helped people from the four corners of the globe recognise the town of Paisley. Our audience is a loyal base of followers who have made it possible for us to continue.”
The radio station picked up the three local awards including Prestige Scotland Radio Show Of the Year for Chris Lawler and his Finally Friday show, as well as the Radio Station of the Year.
Paul also scooped up Radio Personality of the Year. The Paisley radio show also beat a host of UK radio companies to two other national awards by collecting the Prestige Global Radio Station of the Year, with Paul also picking up Prestige Global Radio Personality of the Year.
It has been a journey that Paul and station manager and director Chris Lawler have been on together after starting the shows in their living room during lockdown.
Now, with a team of over 30 presenters from all over the globe, Paul says it has been a journey like no other.
He said: “We never thought we would get this far. One week after we first went live, the world went into lockdown so for the first 18 months we had zero revenue and it was tough.
“Now, over four years in, listeners from 180 countries, our town now is known all over the globe and now with these awards it’s been well worth it.
“We never started this for awards. The truth is we, me and Chris, started this station because we were on another station and the fun had been taken out of radio.
“Now if you look at commercial radio, all the stations play the same stuff as they are owned by the same company. Radio is supposed to be fun so we started this to do two things; promote our town and make radio fun again.”
