Palestine man arrested after traffic stop leads to pursuit

PALESTINE, Texas (KETK) – The Palestine Police Police Department said they arrested a man after a pursuit started at West Street and South Street on Saturday.

Palestine PD Officer Colton McCoy was reportedly doing a traffic stop on a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck for running a stop sign around 7:43 p.m. on Saturday.

Officials said that McCoy identified the driver as Joe Louis Roberts Jr., 60 of Palestine. As McCoy was trying to talk with Roberts, he allegedly sped away and nearly hit McCoy.

A pursuit started and officers allegedly saw Roberts almost lose control of the vehicle before he eventually evaded them. Palestine PD said officers then went to a location that Roberts allegedly frequents in the 100 block of Hardin Street.

According to a press release, the Chevrolet was found by officers at the Hardin Street residence and then a resident let them into the home. Officers then reportedly found Roberts hiding in a bedroom.

Roberts was arrested for driving while intoxicated 3rd or more, evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and running a stop sign. Roberts bonded out of the Anderson County Jail on Monday.
