Pamela Anderson castigates Australian PM over 'lewd' comment after asking him to help Julian Assange

Pamela Anderson has criticised Australia’s prime minister for making “smutty” comments about her when she asked him to help Julian Assange.

The Baywatch star urged Scott Morrison to bring the WikiLeaks founder to Australia, during an appearance on the Nine News Network's 60 Minutes earlier this month.

Mr Assange, an Australian citizen, claimed asylum in Ecuador’s embassy in London in 2012 in order to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he faced sexual assault allegations which were later dropped.

Mr Morrison turned down the request, but added he had “plenty of mates who have asked me if they can be my special envoy to sort out the issue with Pamela”.

In response Anderson posted a letter in which she called Mr Morrison’s remarks “disappointing” and castigated him for making ”smutty, unnecessary comments about a woman voicing her political opinion”.

She wrote: “You trivialised and laughed about the suffering of an Australian and his family. You followed it with smutty, unnecessary comments about a woman voicing her political opinion. We all deserve better from our leaders, especially in the current environment.”

She added: “Rather than making lewd suggestions about me, perhaps you should instead think about what you are going to say to millions of Australians when one of their own is marched in an orange jumpsuit to Guantanamo Bay – for publishing the truth. You can prevent this.”

Earlier this week it was revealed Mr Assange had been charged under seal in the US.

Anderson has visited Mr Assange at the Ecuadorean embassy in London several times. She previously wrote to Kanye West to ask to him to help the WikiLeaks founder.
