Paramount has created the world’s tallest hologram to promote Halo, its new sci-fi television adaptation of of hit Xbox video game franchise.

The record-breaking 60-foot hologram of Master Chief: Spartan 117 — dubbed the ‘HALOgram’ — scaled the equivalent height of a six-story building and featured a custom 3D animation that saw the Master Chief land on Earth and assess the local surroundings.

The ‘HALOgram’ is the first of its kind and featured cutting edge holographic technology. Each installation weighed over 24 tons and was built using over 100m of metal trussing to house 126 square meters of specialist hologram gauze.

The hologram — produced by Minute Media, Wavemaker and Kaledia for Paramount+ — was placed at some of the world’s most iconic landmarks exclusively for one day on 17 April. Locations included Australia, Canada, Brazil and Mexico.

The show has broken a new record as Paramount+ most watched series premiere of all-time in the U.S and internationally.

HALO takes place in the universe that first debuted in 2001 with the launch of Xbox’s first Halo game. It tells the story of an epic 26th century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant.

The show stars American Gods’ Pablo Schreiber as Spartan-117, Californication star Natascja McElhone as Dr Halsey, the creator of the Spartan super soldiers; and Jen Taylor as Cortana, the most advanced AI in human history.

HALO is produced by SHOWTIME in association with 343 Industries along with Amblin Television. One of the producers includes three-time Academy Award winning director Steven Spielberg.

HALO reinvented how people think about video games having sold more than 82 million copies worldwide and grossing more than $6 billion lifetime total sales revenue.

The movie version of Halo has long been in development since 2005 with Peter Jackson, Neill Blomkamp and Guillermo Del Toro all linked at various times.

Paramount+ has already announced that the show will return for a second season. A UK launch date has not yet been confirmed.
