A brand new thriller series available to stream on Paramount+ has been branded 'too extreme' by one of its stars.

The six-parter imagines a world where all men are given a nightly curfew of 7pm which lasts 12 hours. Great Britain has now become the Republic of Great Britain after a left-wing revolution, prompted by the segregation of lesbians and chemical weapon attacks.

While women's safety is seen to have been improved by the curfew, a murder after 7pm throws the system into disarray. Detective Pamela Green (played by Sarah Parish) is tasked with cracking the case and discovering who was behind the crime - man or woman.

The star-studded cast includes Mandip Gill as Sarah, Alexandra Burke as Helen and Bobby Brazier portraying James. Larry Lamb and Anita Dobson also star as Rhys Holden and Janet.

A synopsis for the series, adapted from the novel After Dark by Jayne Cowie, reads: "In a world where men live under a strict curfew, a woman’s murder during curfew challenges the system. Can Detective Pamela uncover the truth?".

While promoting Curfew, Yeovil-born Parish has made clear her opinions about the premise of the series. Appearing on Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast, the star said she was vehemently against a real-life curfew ever being imposed on men.

"I mean, personally, a curfew on all men I don’t think would ever work. It’s too extreme. It's ridiculous and unfair," she shared. "I think the answer to the ongoing violence problem (against women), and there is a problem, there has been a problem for years – is education."

Elaborating on her point, she continued: "It’s how we educate men, how we educate our sons, how we educate young men in school, what they get to watch on the internet, the kind of people they are influenced by on the internet."

Parish predicts the show will "ruffle feathers" but hopes it will spark a more serious conversation around women's safety. "I hope this programme will start a debate and an argument," she said.
