A parent has spoken of her frustration after her child was among a number of pupils left 'stranded' this morning when their school bus was involved in a collision.

A car reportedly smashed into a school bus on Huddersfield Road in Meltham this morning leaving several students unable to get to school. West Yorkshire Police (WYP) confirmed they were called to a "two-vehicle collision" in the road at just after 8am today (Thursday, September, 26).

The bus involved is understood to have been transporting pupils from the local area to Honley High School. Police confirmed that no children were involved in the incident, although one woman was treated for her injuries at the scene.

However, in the aftermath of the incident a large number of students were unable to get to school. A bus reportedly sent was a single decker bus in replacement of the double decker that was involved in the crash but due to the amount of students waiting for the K5 service this didn't meet capacity leaving several students stranded.

One mum, Bianca Tarizan-Leigh, who has two children at Honley High said her youngest was able to get on the replacement bus but her eldest, along with several others, did not and were subsequently unable to make it to school.

She said she contacted the school but they were struggling to get a replacement bus sent out. She has slammed the service as "shocking".

Bianca told Yorkshire Live: "My youngest made it to school , my eldest didn’t, I’d be more then happy to express my opinion on it, I understand accidents happening, but to send ONE single decker bus to replace a double decker bus for the children is ridiculous!

"So as you’d be able to imagine only half of the school children could get on the single decker bus, leaving behind half of the other school children.

"I rang school to be told they was chasing it up and I received a call back from Honley High school at 8.36am to say there is a replacement bus on its way and it will be K7, another hour of children (including my eldest daughter) waiting for this bus so that be two hours now the children would have been waiting for the replacement bus to arrive which it didn’t.

"I think in the end the school eventually told the children left behind to basically stay off as I think they was struggling with a replacement bus which is shocking."

Yorkshire Live have contacted Honley High School for comment.
