Paris Anti-Corruption Protest Takes Aim at Fillon

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Paris’ Place de la Republique on Sunday, February 19, to rally against “corrupt politicians” ahead of the presidential elections in April and May.

Opinion polls show that two-thirds of French voters want conservative candidate Francois Fillon to drop out of the race after allegations that his wife was paid for a job she did not do. An ongoing investigation is looking into whether Penelope Fillon did real work in exchange for hundreds of thousands of euros of taxpayers’ money as his parliamentary assistant.
