Park End house demolished after explosion will go under the hammer for £10,000
The plot of land where a Teesside house exploded this summer has gone up for sale with a guide price of £10,000.
The land at 7 Kirkland Walk, in Middlesbrough, is for sale by auction and auctioneers say it has already created a lot of interest from potential buyers. Residents in the Park End street said the scene was like something off an action movie when the property exploded, ripping through the house and leaving the 57-year-old man inside in a critical condition.
He suffered severe burns and was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Andrew McCubin, 57, was later charged with arson being reckless to endanger life and two counts of assault on an emergency worker. A provisional date for the Kirkland Walk resident's trial has been set for February next year.
Probate Auction Ltd who are selling the freehold plot of land said they have had a number of enquiries already. Photographs of the site show the adjoining house has also been demolished, but this auction is just for number 7.
The auction listing states: "Previously a two bedroom semi-detached house, now a cleared site ready for redevelopment. Due to a gas explosion the property has now been demolished and is ready for redevelopment."
The auction will take place on Wednesday, October 30 at 10.30am. For more information visit here.
Emergency services flooded the area when the explosion took place on June 18 as terrified residents watched on. Twelve houses were affected by the explosion, and houses in Kirkland Walk and nearby Errington Avenue evacuated.
Teesside Live reported on the explosion at the time and how a number of people rushed to the scene to help. Dramatic pictures also showed the aftermath of the explosion. The front of semi-detached home was completely gutted in the incident.
