Westminster Tube station has been closed and a string of London bus routes are on diversion after a terror attack at Parliament.

A man was shot by police outside the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday afternoon moments after a car mowed down pedestrians on Westminster Bridge.

At least one woman has been killed in the incident, which Scotland Yard confirmed was being treated as terror-related.

All approaches to Parliament Square were closed off by police following the attack, with firearms officers still on the scene.

The Met also urged the public to avoid Whitehall, Westminster Bridge and Lambeth Bridge.

Victoria Embankment and Victoria Street, towards Parliament Square, have also been shut.

As rush hour approached, the only Tube station closed off due to the attack was Westminster.

The Jubilee line remained open but is not calling at the station.

However, buses through central London are being placed on diversion.

Buses in the Westminster area are either being diverted or terminated early, with London Underground accepting bus tickets in zone 1.

Routes affected include the number 507.

No trains stations have been affected by the incident.

Rail lines into Waterloo and Charing Cross have remained open.
