A parrot accidentally dialled 999 with its beak leaving its owner mortified.

Emergency call handlers at West Yorkshire Police’s Kirklees control centre received the call on Thursday morning.

Responders who answered the call could not hear anything.

When they dialled the number back it was answered by the parrot’s owner who said the call had occurred accidentally.

The embarrassed owner apologised to the officers on duty.

According to a tweet posted by officer Charlotte Saville, the bird had picked up its owner’s phone with its beak and accidentally made the call.

Ms Saville wrote online: “Unusual Dropped 999 call received in the Kirklees Hub today.

“Dispatcher called back to ensure everything was in order and female answers apologising profusely as her parrot had her phone in its mouth.”
