The first instalment of IT may not have even crept into cinemas yet, but director Andrés Muschietti is already keen to start work on part two.

In great news for horror fans – and terrible for coulrophobes – Muschietti has said that the second part of IT will "ideally" start filming as early as March next year.

"We'll probably have a script for the second part in January," he told Variety. "Part one is only about the kids. Part two is about these characters 30 years later as adults."

Speaking to members of the press including Digital Spy at a screening yesterday (July 19), Andrés opened up about how being a fan of Stephen King's work helped shaped his vision for the horror remake.

"Being such a fan of the book and Stephen King, it's mainly [about] staying true to the emotional experience that you had when you read it. It's as simple as that.

"Then of course there's the other factor of IT, which is making a movie that will blow your mind as an adult and not as a 14-year-old when you were reading the book," he said.

But don't worry too much – even though IT promises to be scary as hell (it's been given an R rating over in the States), the movie is not just about a terrifying killer clown. Promise.

"It's a horror movie but it's not only that," Muschietti explained. "It's also a story of love and friendship and a lot of other beautiful emotions."

Equally promising is the fact that Stephen King himself is "delighted" with Muschietti's adaptation of one of his "most personal works". High praise indeed.

In a pre-recorded message at last night's screening, King reassured fans: "The filmmakers and cast have created a thrilling interpretation which I'm excited to share with all of you."
