Passengers onboard an August 17 flight bound for Sacramento were given an aerial view of the Caldor Fire’s enormous smoke plume.
This footage by Brian Meiss shows the plume breaking through the clouds as it bellows skyward.
As of August 18, the Caldor Fire had grown to 53,772 acres and was threatening nearly 6,000 structures.
“The Caldor Fire continued to experience unprecedented fire behavior and growth due to extremely dry fuels pushed by the south west winds,” authorities said. “A red flag warning is still in effect for the fire area through 8:00 PM tonight with winds switching to the northeast. These winds, combined with low humidity and extremely dry fuels, lead to critical fire weather conditions.” Credit: Brian Meiss via Storyful
