There are severe delays on the Great Northern and Thameslink train services tonight (January 21) between London Kings Cross and Peterborough, after a person was hit by a train. All lines are currently closed while emergency services deal with the incident and trains may be cancelled or delayed by up to an hour.

Some train journeys will also be amended and only complete part of their trip. The disruption is expected to last until around 10pm.

It is likely that people travelling in the area will have to find an alternative route. Great Northern is currently working to make sure train tickets will be accepted on other routes and will update passengers as soon as possible.

A spokesperson for Great Northern said: "It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Stevenage and Peterborough. All lines are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident. Service information will follow.

"Your journey is likely to be severely delayed. Some trains will be amended, only completing parts of their normal journeys. There will also be some cancellations."
