Boarding a plane for your summer holiday, it's always nice to get a warm welcome from the cabin crew. Friendly and professional, they are ready to greet you with a smile as you find your seat and settle in for the journey. However, their role isn't just about making you feel welcome on board.

As well as being on hand to ensure passenger comfort, serve meals and drinks, and maintain safety, their job involves more than what meets the eye. From the moment the plane doors open, the cabin crew quietly monitors and assesses every passenger.

A TikTok video has gone viral after user @MrsMiva, a flight attendant herself, revealed a significant industry secret. In her now-viral revelation, she explains the real reason behind the cabin crew's welcoming routine as passengers board the plane. In the video, she said: "Did you know that your flight attendant greets you not only out of politeness, but also to check whether you are too drunk or sick to fly? ", reports Birmingham Live.

The video has received over a million likes, leaving numerous users completely taken aback by her insider insights. It appears many were none the wiser about this subtle evaluation at the gate. One user expressed their surprise, commenting: "Wait, is there a reason why they always ask me where I sit when I go onboard" Another added: "To see if you're 1. Safe to fly (not intoxicated) and to see if you could help in an emergency."

A third person chimed in: "And looking for suspicious behaviour." While a fourth added: "We are also picking out good candidates in the event of an emergency." Several people shared their personal experiences confirming the theory. One revealed: "I was denied an international flight from England to America because they thought I'd die en route from being so sick."

However, not everyone was convinced. One individual joked that they believed cabin crew were friendly towards them because they're so "cute and cosy". Another joked: "No they greet me because they like me." A further comment quipped: "No they say hi because I'm super cool and awesome - that's why."

Typically, flight attendants will say something along the lines of "welcome aboard" or "good morning/afternoon/evening", accompanied by a bright smile. But even if there's more than one reason for their friendliness, it never goes unappreciated.
