Passengers Stand on Their Seats as Queens Bus Swamped by Post-Ida Floods

A flooded bus, passengers standing on seats inside, made its way along a waterlogged street in Queens, New York, as remnants of Hurricane Ida brought severe flooding on September 1.

This footage by Joseph English shows the view from the bus as it navigated the flood on Broadway, near Queens Boulevard, with passengers inside standing on seats to avoid encroaching water.

Mayor Bill de Blasio issued a state of emergency for New York City as power outages hit and transport was curtailed.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency late on Wednesday night, describing the flooding as “life-threatening” and urging locals to avoid travel where possible. Multiple tornado warnings were also in place across the northeast. Credit: Joseph English via Storyful
