Passengers Wait in Line 'for Hours on End' at Heathrow Airport

Passengers were stuck waiting in a long passport control line at Heathrow Airport in London on Wednesday, July 13, as airport staff struggled to keep up with the recent uptick in passenger numbers.

In a caption accompanying this footage, the uploader said this was the “worst” passport control line they had experienced during their 15 years of living in the UK. They also said there were children and “elderly people with low mobility” that had been waiting in the line for “hours on end.”

Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye released an official statement on Tuesday where he announced a cap on the number of passengers allowed to fly from the airport. The cap will last until September 11 and limit the daily number of departing passengers to no more than 100,000.

“By making this intervention now, our objective is to protect flights for the vast majority of passengers at Heathrow this summer and to give confidence that everyone who does travel through the airport will have a safe and reliable journey," said Holland-Kaye. Credit: @VilaRenatovila via Storyful
