Passion of the Christ 2: Mel Gibson's sequel will bring back original Jesus actor Jim Caviezel for the resurrection

Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ centred on the life and death of Jesus Christ, only touching upon the figure’s resurrection.

For two years now, the filmmaker has been working hard on a sequel — tentatively titled Resurrection — which will focus on JC’s three days between his crucifixion and resurrection.

Jim Caviezel has since confirmed his return as Jesus Christ, teasing the project while speaking to USA Today. “There are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience," he told the publication. "It's great. Stay tuned.”

While staying tight-lipped about the film’s plot, the actor spoke highly of the project and Gibson’s approach towards the film.

"I won’t tell you how he’s going to go about it," Caviezel said. "But I’ll tell you this much, the film he’s going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It’s that good.”

Caviezel — who will next appear in the religious movie Paul, Apostle of Christ — added: "Braveheart, that’s a film that took a long time to be able to crack. The same thing for Passion. And the same thing for this. He’s finally got it. So that is coming.”

Speaking previously about the sequel, Gibson said: “The Resurrection. Big subject. Oh, my God. We’re trying to craft this in a way that’s cinematically compelling and enlightening so that it shines new light, if possible, without creating some weird thing.”
