Paul Gascoigne has had to pull out of Italian reality show Isola dei Famosi after hurting his shoulder.

The former footballer, 53, injured himself last month but managed to return to the programme after being treated in hospital.

However, the star is still having issues with his shoulder and has quit the show, which is Italy’s version of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

His management confirmed the news in a statement on Twitter.

It said: “We hate to admit it but our amazing client and friend Gazza has indeed had to retire from @IsolaDeiFamosi due to issues with his shoulder.

“We are so proud of everything he's accomplished during his time on the island.”

The post also assured fans: “This is not the last you'll see of Gazza. You have our word.”

Gascoigne injured himself during a challenge last month and according to reports was airlifted to hospital in a helicopter.

He made it back to the reality show and was photographed with his arm in a sling.

He later shared in an interview that his shoulder was “so so”.

Gazza’s departure comes shortly after the Italian show, which is filmed in Honduras, teased that he had sunbathed completely naked.
