Bake Off pays tribute following death of contestant Dawn Hollyoak

The Great British Bake Off has paid tribute to Dawn Hollyoak after the former contestant passed away.

IT manager Dawn competed in the 2022 series, and was sent home in the Halloween-themed sixth week. Her family announced her sad death via her Instagram page on Friday (July 5).

"It's with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our star baker Dawn," the post read.

"Not only a wonderfully talented baker but first and foremost an amazing mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Dawn passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. We will miss her forever, but promise to continue her baking legacy!"

On X/Twitter, the official Bake Off account sent its condolences.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dawn Hollyoak," the post read. "Dawn brought so much joy and beautiful baking to the Tent in 2022.

"Our condolences go out to her family and friends."

Paul Hollywood also paid tribute to the star, writing in the comments on Dawn's Instagram page: "I'm so sorry to hear that, send my love to the family. A lovely lady x."

From the same series, contestant Sandro Farmhouse added: "We love you Dawn," while Maxy Maligisa said: "Dawn will be missed so much, our memories together are memories that I will cherish forever".

Last year's contestant Cristy Sharp wrote: "I’m so sorry, My thoughts are with you all," while fellow 2023 contestant Sakunthala Chandrasekara added: "So sorry to hear this, our thoughts are with Dawn's family and friends!"

During her six weeks on Bake Off, Dawn never won Star Baker, but she was in contention for the win in weeks one and four.

The show is expected to return this year with the same team of judges and hosts, but Prue Leith will no longer be judging the celebrity series that airs early in the year.

The Great British Bake Off and its spin-off Bake Off: An Extra Slice both air on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
