The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 is almost here, and we'll finally see whether it was worth all the money and public backlash.

At a press screening of the first new episode (which Digital Spy attended), the stars - Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig - alongside Channel 4 boss Jay Hunt, talked about how everything is going to feel as warm, quaint and familiar as it was before, and there's no drama at all.

Well... maybe a little bit. You see, Paul was asked if he was still close to his former co-judge, national treasure Mary Berry, and if she would be proud of the Channel 4 version.

"I'm in touch with the whole team as much as I have been for the last seven years," he replied. "That's my answer."

Noel then diffused the awkward tension by saying that he once went clubbing with Mary, while Prue joked that Mary's advice for her was "watch out for Paul Hollywood".

Earlier in the Q&A, Paul said that he does follow plenty of the show's former contestants on social media and is proud of what they have achieved.

Paul has spoken before about why he stuck with the show, and said that it was due to his loyalty to the crew.

Mary herself previously admitted that "Paul and I had our differences about what was important to us but he is a brilliant bread-maker and I admired him a lot."

The Great British Bake Off will return on Tuesday, August 29 at 8pm on Channel 4.
