Sir Paul McCartney reveals he uses teleprompter to stop him forgetting lyrics when performing

Sir Paul McCartney has shared that he uses a teleprompter when he's performing to stop him forgetting the lyrics of his many songs.

The Beatle revealed that sometimes he gets distracted and starts thinking about his dinner instead of focusing on the gig he's doing.

In an appearance on Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett's SmartLess podcast, the actors asked the 78-year-old if he ever confused the lyrics of his songs while up on stage.

"Oh yeah I do, happens quite a lot. That's why I have a teleprompter," he explained.

“Sometimes I’ll be doing a song, like Eleanor Rigby or something, and I’m on autopilot," McCartney went on. "“And I’m starting to think, ‘Oh, what am I gonna have for dinner? That's alright, maybe you won’t have the soup but maybe you’ll just go for the main course’.

“I go ‘Stop!’, because I’m singing Eleanor Rigby. I’ve separated myself not only from Paul and fame, but a couple of bits in my head are going in different places.

“So sometimes that breaks down and I forget the song, but remember the soup."

The music legend isn't the only artist who has admitted to using a teleprompter for their songs. Robbie Williams has previously stated that he uses an autocue due to the effect past drug abuse has had on his memory.

“Now if you were in a stadium full of people and you had done drugs in your life, your brain is not going to be working properly,” he said.

The former Take That star, who suffers with anxiety, added that he didn't want to be caught out in such a high-pressure scenario in front of thousands of people.
