Paul O'Grady fans emotional as TV show airs hours after funeral

The TV star has been laid to rest after passing away in March aged 67

Paul O’Grady fans said they were “raising a glass” to the late star as his TV show aired just hours after he was laid to rest.

The star’s funeral was held in in Aldington, Kent, on Thursday (20 April) after he died suddenly in March at the age of 67.

Just a few hours later, the latest instalment of his much-loved programme For The Love Of Dogs was on ITV.

O’Grady had filmed the series before he passed away and it started airing earlier in April.

Viewers admitted they were emotional tuning in on the same day of the funeral.

“Just watching Paul now on #ForTheLoveOfDogs,” said one person on Twitter.

“I still can't believe he's gone.”

“So sad watching now he’s passed,” posted another viewer.

“He had such a pure heart and the love he had for dogs as well made me like him even more.”

Somebody else wrote: “Well as promised, raising a glass to Paul and all his family and friends tonight whilst watching #ForTheLoveOfDogs.”

“This is nuts watching #ForTheLoveOfDogs knowing that #PaulOGrady was laid to rest earlier today,” said another upset fan.

“So sad.”

One fan said: "What an absolute treasure Paul O'Grady really was, I love this show and will really miss it. Just like Paul O'Grady will be forever missed."

"National treasure," they added.

The show previously paid tribute to O’Grady when the new series started.

At the end of the episode, a photo of O’Grady was displayed on the screen.

The usual theme tune was then muted and there was complete silence as the credits rolled.
