Paul Pogba offers to take picture with Australian tourists on train... but they have no idea who the Manchester United star is

Football superstar Paul Pogba bemused a group of Australian tourists when he offered to have a photo with them as a way of apology for being loud on a train.

Lewis and Roslyn Patrick, from Sydney, kept looking over at a rowdy group of passengers playing Uno who turned out to be the Manchester United squad.

Poga approached them and offered to take a photo with them as a way of apologising for the noise but the Australian tourists had no idea who the Frenchman was.

Nate Patrick wrote on Twitter: “These lads knew they were making a bit of noise, so they come up to Mum and Dad, and apologise, and ask if they'd like a photo.”

At this point, his father thought he meant he would take one of him and his partner together, before handing the star his phone.

“The stranger looks weirdly at my Dad, and says (with a French accent), ‘No, no no, I am asking if you would like a photo with me, sir?’

“My Dad looks at my Mum like who on earth does this guy think he is? But also my Dad is mega-polite, and obliges to be in the photo,” wrote Nate.

Following this, the couple sent numerous messages to their son, before sending through the photo and asking: “Nathan, you wouldn't happen to know who this is?”

To their son’s astonishment, the man they described as having a French accent was midfielder Paul Pogba, while former Chelsea player and now Red Devil Nemanja Matic was also in the picture.

He responded to his family group chat, in full capitals: “The man with his arm around dad is Paul Pogba, the most expensive footballer in the world, and World Cup winner with France.”

After learning who the pair were Mrs Patrick, 65, said: "I'd been watching them the whole time on the train.

"They were playing Uno and at one point they got rather excited and jumped up and said, 'I'm sorry to disturb you, we're just excited'."

A thread regaling the story has since been shared thousands of times on Twitter, much to the amusement of readers.

One wrote: “This was absolutely hilarious! I couldn’t stop laughing!”

Others said they were “in tears” and called the situation “brilliant”.

Their son Nate added: “They're lovely people - just know nothing about football.”

Pogba moved to Manchester United in a deal worth just shy of £90million in August 2016 from Juventus.

At the time this was a world record fee.

He also won the World Cup with France in 2018.
