Pc Andrew Harper latest: Jed Foster will stand trial in January for alleged murder of police officer

The man accused of murdering newlywed Pc Andrew Harper will stand trial in January.

Jed Foster, 20, is charged with killing the Thames Valley PC, who died on Thursday night near the village of Sulhamstead, Berkshire, after officers were called to a suspected break-in.

PC Harper, 28, a newlywed who was due to go on his honeymoon, died of multiple injuries after being dragged under a vehicle and may have also been hit by a police car during the incident.

Foster was one of ten males aged between 13 and 30 arrested in the wake of his death, and was charged on Monday night with murder and theft of a quad bike from a man called Peter Wallis.

He appeared in the dock at at Reading Crown Court before Judge Paul Dugdale on Wednesday morning.

He was remanded in custody with a trial date set for January 20.

It comes a day after he appeared at Reading magistrates' court.

His mother was in court to support him and arrived clutching a teddy bear wearing a Superman t-shirt.

His barrister Rob Jacques told the court Foster "denies any involvement in the horrific murder of Pc Harper".

The remaining nine suspects have been bailed until September 13.

Pc Harper’s wife, Lissie Harper, has paid tribute to the officer who she married just four weeks ago, writing a letter describing him as "the kindest, loveliest, most selfless" person.
