PRINCETON — WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital announced Monday the opening of its new Critical Care Step Down Unit, featuring eight private rooms dedicated to providing specialized care for patients recovering from cardiac conditions or significant health events.

The Critical Care Step Down Unit is designed to meet the unique needs of patients who require a higher level of monitoring and support than a standard medical-surgical unit but are stable enough to no longer require intensive care services.

Each private room is equipped with advanced monitoring technology and amenities to ensure patient comfort and safety during this stage of their recovery.

"We are excited to introduce our new Critical Care Step Down Unit, which represents our commitment to delivering exceptional care in our community, said Karen Bowling, PCH's president and CEO. "Opening this unit increases the number of patients we can serve without expanding our footprint.

The new facility helps keep facilities ready for patients needing them.

"We can now move eligible patients out of our intensive care units and keep those resources available for when our sickest patients present in our emergency department. This decreases the need for patient transfers that are made based on available critical care beds," said Bowling.

The multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals in the Critical Care Step Down Unit provides personalized care tailored to each patient's unique needs. From skilled nurses to respiratory therapists and rehabilitation specialists, patients receive compassionate care and expert attention to help them regain their health and independence.

Key features of the new Critical Care Step Down Unit include:

— Eight private rooms equipped with advanced monitoring technology.

— Specialized nursing staff trained in critical care management.

— Collaborative approach to patient care involving physicians, nurses, therapists, and other specialists.

— Rehabilitation services tailored to promote recovery and functional independence.

— Patient and family education programs to facilitate understanding of medical conditions and treatment plans.
