Christmas only means one thing to many - no, not the arrival of Father Christmas but instead the arrival of the PDC World Darts Championship.

The annual competition pits the biggest and best names in the sport against each other across the tournament's three-week run at Alexandra Palace.

Defending champion Rob Cross will look to keep his crown but he faces stiff competition this year from Dutchman and world number one Michael van Gerwen.

The biggest prize in darts always draws a crowd and with the tournament starting this evening, we tell you everything you need to know.

When is the PDC World Darts Championship?

The tournament gets under way tonight, Thursday December 13, and runs to Tuesday, January 1.

There won't be any matches from December 24 - December 26 but it restarts on December 27.

The final will be on January 1 at 8pm.

How can I watch the championship?

The championships will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Darts in the UK and Ireland, but fans without a Sky subscription can catch all the action with a NOW TV pass (daily, weekly or monthly).

Sky Sports subscribers can stream the match online via SkyGo and the SkyGo app.

Some sessions will be also be shown on Sky Sports Main Event.

How can I get tickets?

There aren't many tickets left, but there are some available for the earlier rounds through Seetickets.
