Peaky Blinders star Sam Claflin has been spotted filming scenes in the city centre for an upcoming drama for Amazon Prime.

The British actor, 37, will star alongside Bill Nighy and Alexandra Roach in Lazarus, which is based on a script co-written by Harlan Coben and screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst,, who are the masterminds behind recent streaming hits Fool Me Once, The Stranger and Stay Close.

Sam will be known to audiences for playing Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games film series between 2013 and 2015, as well as taking on the role of Sir Oswald Mosley in BBC’s Peaky Blinders.

Filming for Lazarus, which follows Sam’s forensic pathologist who investigates cold case murders following the death of his father played by Bill Nighy, has been taking place across Greater Manchester this week.

In scenes filmed on Friday morning (June 21), Sam was seen on location in the city centre. Filming a chase scene, the actor was pictured jumping onto a canal path alongside Ducie Street before running off. The scenes also featured a stunt double on set.

Last month, the actor was also seen filming outside Gordon Ramsay's Manchester restaurant Lucky Cat on King Street. He was pictured wearing the same brown double-breasted coat during both shoots.

Lazarus, which does not have an air date yet but will be screened via Amazon Prime, has been executive produced by Quay Street Productions, which is part of ITV Studios, and behind hits including ITV Drama Nolly, starring Helena Bonham Carter, and a number of Harlan Coben’s Netflix shows. Production crews filming another Harlan adaptation, Missing You, were also recently seen on location in Didsbury in April this year.

Heather Curtis, current series executive for Pan-English scripted SVOD TV at Amazon MGM Studios, said of the show: “Lazarus is a gripping series that captures your attention from the very beginning.

“We're thrilled to unite with Harlan, Danny, Quay Street, and the all-star cast of Sam Claflin, Bill Nighy, and Alexandra Roach to tell this compelling story for our global Prime Video customers.”

Screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst added: “Lazarus is a psychological thriller with an emotional spine. It's about fathers and sons, love and loss. We have attempted to bring our trademark wit and warmth as well as twists galore."

Other shows to film in Greater Manchester recently include the second series of Alma's Not Normal, which was filmed in Bolton, and upcoming David Morrissey and Aimee Lou Wood BBC sitcom Daddy Issues, which saw production take place across Stockport.
