A Peaky Blinders star has travelled across the pond and forward in time to join the fifth season of US sci-fi series The 100.

Which is rather fitting since the show just aired a huge time jump itself.

Jordan Bolger, who played Isiah in the popular BBC series, will play a character called Zeke, who has been circling another solar system on a space mission in the century or so since the world's end.

However, he's going to come crashing back down to earth real soon to find humanity isn't exactly as he remembered it.

"Thank you to everyone showing love and support already!" Jordan wrote on Twitter after news of his casting was announced.

"This season's looking to be a crazy rollercoaster...I can't wait!"

Zeke is described as a self-confessed adrenaline junkie who's "brimming with brains, wit and bravado" and has a passion for the secrets of the universe, TVLine reports.

When he finds himself back on Earth in season five though, he'll find the "charred remains of his old world, tribal warfare, shifting alliances and a brutal fight for humanity's survival", which the rest of us saw through seasons one to four.

So, yes. It seems season five really is going to give us an entirely new world on The 100, complete with new enemies, new alliances and, no doubt, another looming threat against humanity.

But, hey, they have survived two apocalypses already, so we're sure they can handle it.

Other casting news from season five will see series regular Isaiah Washington, who plays Thelonious Jaha, leave the show at some point in the new series, while Clarke's adoptive earth daughter recast.

Madi was initially played by Imogen Tear. However, the young nightblood will now be played by Shadowhunters star Lola Flanery.

The 100 will return to the CW in the US in early 2018. E4 airs the show in the UK.
