A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 75-year-old woman was repeatedly stabbed to death at a house in Peckham.

Police and paramedics were called to Ethnard Road, a residential street, just after 4pm on Friday.

The woman was found with multiple stab wounds and pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.

A 55-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for a stab wound, before being transferred into custody at a police station, where he remained on Saturday.

The Met said the man and woman were known to each other, and that no other people were being sought in connection with the killing.

Officers said they know who the victim was, but formal identification has yet to take place.

Detectives in the Met’s homicide and major crime command were investigating.
