Pedestrian dies in M42 collision near Solihull

A pedestrian died in a collision on the M42 near Solihull. West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) and West Midlands Police responded to 999 calls to report a serious collision involving a pedestrian on the southbound carriageway of the M42 between junctions 4 and 3a at 11.09pm last night (January 12).

WMAS sent an ambulance, paramedic officer, a specialist paramedic, a MERIT trauma team and a MARS doctor to the scene. Medics battled to save the man, who has not been identified.

He had reportedly been involved in a collision with a vehicle. But sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson explained: "When ambulance staff arrived, they found emergency service colleagues providing basic life support to a male pedestrian in a critical condition after reportedly being involved in a collision with a vehicle.

"The team of ambulance staff quickly commenced advanced life support. Sadly despite everyone’s best efforts nothing could be done to save the man, and he was confirmed deceased on scene a short time later."

CoventryLive contacted West Midlands Police and a spokesperson said that the man's death is not being treated as suspicious. The force spokesperson said: "We were called last night (12 Jan) shortly after 11pm to the M42 between Junction 4 and Junction 3a after a man was hit by a car.

"The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. His death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the Coroner."
